Here are some new details on AEW being renewed on TNT through 2023.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the deal for a renewal started started right after the first of the year and it escalated very quickly. The new deal is for $175 million in rights fees. It also includes the option for a fifth year at a significant price increase. Annual escalators are built into the contract.
For what it’s worth, the new deal does not include production costs. That is something TNT was previously paying for.
According to reports, the old deal paid AEW $500,000 in production costs per week. That means there will be an increase in production costs of $18 million per year for AEW. With the new deal, the show is scheduled to become profitable in 2020 and beyond. The new AEW deal is said to be more than the $30 million per year that the USA Network is paying for NXT. Of course, that is only a fraction of what the USA Network pays for RAW and FOX pays for SmackDown.
